This group has grown a little large for some of the locations we have wanted to go to, trying to get it back down to the small friendly outings where everyone can talk to every one else, as our spring fooding season comes around.
If you have been cut its not personal, in fact its a little the opposite the people who were cut I had had very little interaction with or had made it to less than two outings and were not part of the core group of which this group was started for.
If this sounds a bit fascist then the blame lands on me and alone, Im ok with being called on it. But the ultimate goal is to just to have a good time without any drama or extra stress on the group or the fine establishments we choose to try. Perhaps in the future we will start a 2nd group that meets on different days to accomodate the overflow and those who just cant make it at our usual time. (or anyone else who wants to start a group like that Go for it! (if your not a paid account I will set it up and make you the moderator. )

Peppers of Albuquerque
It's on Journal Center, attached to the Courtyard by Marriott. I ate there last night with a friend and was quite impressed with a delicious carne asada plate. My friend had a tuna steak that she said was the best she'd ever eaten. As is typical with hotel restaurants, it's not cheap, but they are accepting gift certificates from www.restaurant.com, things like $25 off of a $35 or more check - which are available on that site for $5 currently. Check it out.

Tried out the Saffron Cafe on its opening day Its in the old Amerasia location(Stanford and Lead I think), it was ok, very slow and they mucke dup my order, but it was a 1/2 off everything soft opening day, so i can imagine it will only improve. Place was pretty nicely remodeled
I also noticed the old New Chinatown is now a Asian Bistro, and finally open (up central west of San Meteo

Outing to , "El Sarape" 4119 Central Ave Ne
#1 - Name: El Sarape
#2 - 4119 Central NE
#3 - Phone/Fax: unknown
#4 - Type of Food/Beverage: Mexican, some New Mexican, Some Old Mexican
On a scale of 1-10 with one being the worst and ten being the best
Comments on each category under rating.
Service - 5 not super attentive, but nice, were happy to give us lots of refills and the big booh incase someone else showed up.
Pricing - 6 pretty good pricing, most meals ware in the $7-10 range
Quality - 6 Presentation was pretty, chips tasted fairly fresh, every thing looked good and fresh
Taste - 5, I ordered a combo plate (31 i think) came with enchiladas, relleno, quesadia, beans, rice. It was good, but not super flavorful, also not very spicy. the red chile kinda mixed with the green and the beans, giving them a smoked red chile taste which was good but kinda made the whole dish taste the same,
My Fellow taste tester ordered the mole, which came with nice soft fresh corn tortillas, he was pretty happy with the taste of his. (possibly more so than i was)
Cleanliness - 7 The place inside was surprisingly clean, it shows its age in the wear and tear on the tables, cushions, carpet, outside there are birds nests in every light fixture. and the windows are horribly scratched up.
Decor/ambiance - Family diner/Mexican restaurant
Style - Mexican
Other comments/story/review - The ambiance was helped out by 3 (i think) mariachi musicians practicing up the hall, competing with the jukebox, which at one point played a Spanish version of "My Achy Breaky Heart"...
Conclusion - Its not amazing, but for as kinda frightened of the location i have been since my teenage years, it looks like it was unfounded. the place is surprisingly popular even at 2pm there were atleast 5 other tables in use there.
Btw there is another related El Sarape out on Isleta Bvd.
